Happenings..

We had a fun and scary night at the Castle of Chaos with Jack and Racheal on Monday. When we took the picture on the left we saw that it almost looked like a lightsaber above Eric's hand. Of course we got excited about that and made the picture on the right happen.
Did you know Cheesecake factory has other desserts besides cheesecake? Yeah who would have thought.. or cared... except when we went there after the haunted house I wasn't feelin' that dense cheesecake so I ordered a peachy peach smoothie and it was so great, and of course HUGE so I was nice and shared.
Eric is still holding strong to his end of the deal he made with his friend to go to the gym daily. Lucky me, I have a gym buddy!

I ran 1 mile on Tuesday! The first mile since St. George and it felt great to be running again, but I didn't want to push it since it was just a trial to see if my foot would hurt after. Good news! It didn't hurt so I ran again on Thursday and did 2 miles. Since I haven't had any other pain on my foot this week, I'm going to start running more this week! Yay! No more Pilates! Just kidding, I'll never get sick of doing my 10 minute solutions video.

My office was given a face lift this week! New flooring and a window. Bring on the light!

(Instagram) Back to my sweatshop yoga class and finally mastered my twig pose!

Tuesday Tip :: Getting Started

One of the most challenging things about participating in any type of fitness program or physical activity is just getting started. It doesn't have to be a big deal. Just start with a small goal.

Maybe you haven't been exercising at all... so look into some type of exercise, fitness class or sport that seems appealing to you and try it out. Remember, most exercises can be done in the comfort of your own home or neighborhood. You do not have to make any gym commitments in order to start. In fact, most times if somebody has not already been active and working out they will not stick with their gym commitment for long and that just ends up being a big waste of money. If you're really nervous about the whole gym idea check out Youtube! I'm amazed at all the cool fitness videos I find on there.

Maybe you have been exercising and are looking to try something new... that's great! It's always good to switch up your fitness routine. I love to run and practice yoga but I also love to try new things. I've just signed up for my first triathlon in June and I'm really excited to switch more of my time and focus to swimming and cycling. Trying new things will increase your fitness level and keep things interesting. What is something new you'd love to try? - I am totally going to take a swing at CrossFit soon after my marathon is over.

The important thing about getting started is the goal... big or small. I'm going to run for 5 minutes, or I'm going to run a marathon. You must ALWAYS have a fitness goal in mind. Don't be afraid to be a little competitive with yourself, and don't be afraid to be a LOT proud of yourself for accomplishing even the smallest thing. The satisfaction you feel when accomplishing a fitness goal is what will keep you coming back for more!

Tuesday Tip :: Goals (MAKE THEM!)

I'm surprised to discover this year that so many people around me don't set New Year's Resolutions. The popular excuse I keep hearing is "I don't wanna set myself up for failure." While I understand that percentage of people who actually stick with their NYRs is low, I think its sad for people to just bypass the beginning of the year like it's no big deal. I love the beginning of a new year! I love that feeling of a fresh start. It gives me the motivation I need to set new goals, work on previous ones and do things I wouldn't normally have the drive to accomplish. There are other ways we can create that motivation. Whether it's the beginning of the week, day or hour, every moment can be a fresh start. It's important to constantly be setting new goals and continue working on the goals we've not accomplished. Did you know that it took Thomas Edison over 10,000 tests to get the light bulb to work?? I'm glad he didn't give up!

Don't give up!

If you've been unsuccessful in keeping a new fitness routine, weight lose program or any other goal supporting good health. DON'T GIVE UP! We ALL have weaknesses and we'll all have moments of failure as we try to accomplish our goals.

2013...

Just got home from an amazing trip with my best friends! We partied on the beach and had fun adventures in Six Flags, Vegas and St. George. After a month of holidays, battling a brutal cold and traveling I am ready to get back to it!

Here's to an amazing year full of marathon training and kick butt workouts!

P.S. It is my goal to be able to hold these yoga postures in 2013

Timpanogos Half Marathon Episode 2

Last year I ran the Timpanogos Half Marathon and beat my time from my first half a month earlier. It was such a great feeling. This year I stepped up the intensity in my workouts and that paid off this past Saturday when I ran the Timp Half. I was able to set a new PR and beat my goal time of 1:55. I finished in 1:54:37 :) Hooray! That is an average of 8:45min/mile. Running and racing is addicting. Now that I know I can run a half in under 1:55, I am thinking I can run my next race in under 1:50. :) My new goal. That means I am going to have to run at a 8:30min/mile or less. I can do it! It really is amazing what you can get your body to do. You just need some practice and training!

Oh yeah, and did I mention that I got to run this race with my sister?! I LOVE running with my best friends! They make it so much more fun. At about mile 5 we hit a pretty steep hill and instead of trying to resist it (which makes my legs cramp up) I just threw my arms up in the air and yelled "WEEE" like I was riding a roller coaster and ran down it faster. Larissa and I just laughed. Haha, it was ridiculous.

I wanted to finish side by side with my sis but at around mile 7 she needed to take a potty break and I couldn't imagine having to increase my time at least 10 minutes just because of how long the line was. Luckily I have a great sister who understood how much I wanted to hit my goal time and was okay with me ditching her. Of course I was there to run with her at the end as she finished. She did great!

Not sure when my next race is but I'm already super excited for it! :)
